WHAT IS ACTIVE VS. PASSIVE RFID TECHNOLOGY?

Active RFID technology is a high-security solution that uses contact-less, long-range, battery-powered tags with the TRANSIT RFID Access Control System to identify vehicle and driver automatically, also referred to as AVI, using microwave frequency. Passive RFID technology is a cost-effective UHF uPASS Access Control System, using battery-free tags that also support AVI applications and do not require an internal power source therefore relying on reading a hands-free signal provided by the designated UHF reader antenna. RFID is an active or passive technology based on the application, reader, and tags used. RFID readers, RFID tags, RFID accessories and parts are manufactured by NEDAP®.
